I’m sure the last shot hasn’t been fired for Trace Adkins albeit that his latest album is titled ‘Til The Last Shot’s Fired’.
In fairness the full album title is The Definitive Greatest Hits which contains twenty eight tracks all of which have entered the Top Forty in the charts when he was signed to the Capitol record label.
Whilst with the record label he produced eight studio albums over a period of thirteen years and in this double CD set he includes three number one chart toppers and eleven further offerings that charted in the Top Ten.
From his debut release ‘Dreamin’ Out Loud’ in 1996 Tracey Darrell ‘Trace’ Adkins has proved his worth to the country fraternity as all but one of his studio albums have received gold or platinum certification in the States.
Not bad for a man who lost his little finger on his left hand when it was sliced with a knife, and at his request was reattached at an angle in order that he could continue to play guitar.
In 2008 he won a Grammy for the Best Male Country Performance and the Best Country Song for ‘You’re Gonna Miss This’ which is included in this collection along with one of my personal favourites, the very tongue in cheek ‘Marry for Money’.
There’s a great selection of songs with vocal brilliance and magical musicianship throughout and is worthy of a place in anyone’s record collection.
In fact the whole collection amplifies the best of contemporary country music over the last decade.
It is an album with so much many moods that you’ll listen to it over and over again.
Sheer Class.
