Are you a ‘Country Clouseau’ …if so, you may be able to help with a country query relating to Roy Drusky and Jean Shepard on today’s show.
If you remember when the North East was steeped in country shows with country presenters Peter John Bergg, Stan Laundon and myself then you’ve got to take a special listen to today’s show.
Our Album Of The Week features the ‘gentle giant’ of country Don Williams who returns to Britain this month to play a series of shows and our ‘Made In Britain’ slot features Peter Dee.
I’ll be talking a look at some country artist birthdays and taking you back to a massive Number One from 1982.
There’s the usual look at The Billboard Hot Country Singles Charts and I’ll also be playing the top three this very day.
There’s a couple of new artists on the show for your delectation and delight and there’s songs from Carrie Underwood, Loretta Lynn, R W Hampton, Alabama, Dolly Parton, Joe Walsh, Kix Brooks, Kenny Rogers and The Bellamy Brothers to name only a few.
It’ll be great if you can take time out to join me.
Cheers for now
Brian C

Hi Gene,
Anybody who listens to Don cannot be old …perhaps like me just mature in musical taste. Yes there are some good songs on the
album…glad you liked them..Thanks for listening
Hi Anja, You’re so right it’s good to hear him again in fine voice
Thanks for being there to take a listen
Wow! Those three new Don Williams songs are just great. No one but Don could sing them and put so much feeling in them.
I am listening now and waiting for Don Williams to play. I am very excited that he has a new album which will be available to us here in the USA June 19. You guys across the ocean are lucky that you can purchase it this month. I am a long time Don Williams fan, since 1972. Does that make me old? Only 7 years behind Don. Thanks for allowing us the opportunity to listen to him.
Great Don Williams songs! Fantastic voice, hasn’t changed a bit!
Will there be a lot of English country artists played next week to celebrate St.George’s Day on the 23rd?
Travellin Rose V.I.P Room, Hayley Oliver, Debbie Nunn, Lucie Diamond, The Haleys, Tim McKay …perhaps?
Hi Brian, Thanks for being there.
RADIO – interesting you talk about past days in the North East. When I first picked up on country music 1992/93 I just used to borrow CD’s at local music libraries. It wasn’t until about 4 years later that I started listening to country radio programmes when I was tipped off by a relation about David Allan’s Country Club on Radio 2. Then I found a fantastic local show on a commericial station for a few years before it was scrapped then have listened to lots of the BBC programmes / Smooth Radio (Brian Clough)and local community shows. Sometimes listening to local country shows feels like I’m the only one listening. Never hear any requests, texts or phone messages. One wonders about the importance of radio these days with some many ways and devices to stream music. The 1000′s of radio spins in America is not selling big numbers of albums anymore. I like the company of a presenter but I think they need to dig out a lot of new stuff and introduce you to artists rather than hearing back issue music that you can stream anytime on YouTube, Spotify or one’s own collection.
Don Williams – Quite liked the song you played. Heard a duet with Alison Krauss which is nice.
Peter Dee – Hadn’t heard of him or the Brooks & Dunn song which turns out was a #1 in 1995. I never followed charts back then so was unaware of the song. “The Made In Britain” is a bit loose with a very similar backing track (?) to the original. Peters voice is good and more youthful than he looks.
Laura Bell Bundy – Like the track but sounds a bit overproduced , cluttered regarding the production
The Bellamy Brothers – were in the news this week. DJ Otzi and The Bellamy Brothers “Like a Star” Flash Mob. They were simultaneously flash mobbed in three separate cities in Germany, Switzerland and Austria. European fans and dance clubs organized the massive flash mob. Details on my blog
