Looking Back Over The Country
On this the first of the new shows into a brand New Year I’ll be taking a look back over the world of country music in 2009.
As it’s a purely personal choice, it will feature what I consider to be the Best Male Artist Album…the Best Female Artist Album…the Album Of the Year and a host of other categories which not only include the Song Of The Year but the most bizarre record of 2009 (as I mention ..in my humble opinion).
If you’ve been taking a good listen to the changing face of country during 2009 then join me for a look back even if we agree to differ on some of the choices I’m sure there will still be some great music up for grabs. I promise it’s going to be a very fast moving show as I’ve had to leave more out ..than I’ve put in.
Put your feet up and take a listen…I’m sure you’ll need a rest after all the festivities.
Although I’ve already mentioned it previously…I hope you had a great New Year and here’s wishing you all the best for 2010
Cheers

Good to have your feedback and comments.
Gretchen and LBT to me are really worthy of the accolades and great to know that ‘Aunty Beeb’ is getting her act together and playlisting a ‘touch of class’.(As you say they must have been listening to TAC….people of impeccable taste …perhaps???)
Lets hope that LBT puts it in their diary to visit us all here in Britain,
Cheers for now…just keep spreading the word

Hi Mike
Good to hear from you. As far as ‘Doyet Sproyt’ was concerned I’m glad you interpreted as When I gave Sal a mention I actually thought she was referring to a diet as in she’d eaten ‘diet sprouts’… so good to know that a geordie lad ‘Wot tarks proppa’ helped her out.
Cheers

Hi Brian , HNY , Well done for keeping Country music alive on the radio in the North East. Thanks for nominating Gretchen Peters Circus as your compilation album of 2009. I was somewhat disappointed by a lot of albums on the Billboard Country Charts last year prefering much more the ones released by Independent artists like Gretchen and albums that were rich in quality like Rosanne Cash. Terrific that REBA was #1 on the Country Singles chart at the end of 2009. Her album was a slow grower for me and hasn’t sold like her previous records. I don’t like all the songs but there certainly some excellent tracks on it. Enjoyed Lady A’s ‘Need You Now’ what a year they had with their CMA awards!
It very good shout by you selecting Little Big Town as your album of 2009 – BBC Radio2 must have been listening to The American Connection! This week the band are Record Of The Week on Radio 2 and they are “A” playlisted next week.
Congrats to Bill winning that wonder bundle of goodies and best wishes to all your regular listeners. “Consider Me Gone” until next weeks show have a “splendiforous” 2010 I like the Brian Clough vocab!
Are we becoming a double act!? Think I’ll just listen for a while. Yes, I remember “Doyet Sproyt” well. Poor Sal, whenever she bellied up to a bar in Texas or elsewhere, her Pompey accent had barmen bemused. Fortunately there was a Geordie to translate it back to Diet Sprite! And what a fantasic record to request. They don’t make them like that anymore. Happy New Year, Sal & you n yours Brian). Mike n Kath xxx
