I always think it’s strange how you come across certain songs and artists.
Whilst shopping my wife had heard a song playing in a record store through the house system and eventually as curiosity had got the better of her asked one of the assistants who the artist was and what the song was called.
The song was called ‘Passionate Kisses’ the singer Mary Chapin Carpenter and it featured on an album entitled ‘Come On, Come On’.
Naturally she bought the CD.
That song became the album’s third single release and gained her a number four placing in the Stateside charts in 1993.
It wasn’t however until a year later that Mary C reached the number one spot with ‘Shut Up and Kiss Me’, which unbelieveably has been her only number one to date.
That however may change sooner than later as she has just released her latest offering entitled ‘The Age of Miracles’.
This new release is the first since her 2008 release of songs entitled ‘Come Darkness, Come Light:Twelve Songs Of Christmas’.
This former Country Music Association Female Vocalist Of The Year to my mind is bouncing back into award winning status, after recovery from an pulmonary embolism with her new release.
It’s a great mix of light and shade music interspersed with provoking words and thoughts throughout to the full album with some potential number ones ready to ride the charts.
My personal favorites being the title track, followed by “I Put My Ring Back On “, ‘The Way I Feel’. and ‘I Was A Bird’ which are all potential chart toppers.
Mary C is a great wordsmith with an honesty and truthfullness in her songs and this album gives an insight into her life over the last three or four years.
As usual the album is brilliantly produced (self produced with Matt Rollings) and musically it is superb.
Each time she has a new release I find myself saying ‘it’s Mary Chapin Carpenter at her very best” , so why should I relate to anything different this time round.
Like me, my wife having ‘discovered’ Mary C ,now just has to reach to our CD collection to appreciate real good music.
