Summertyne Americana Festival

For the last few year one of the biggest eclectic musical events has been staged at the Sage Gateshead.

Apart from the wonderful offerings of music across the whole year it seems for the combination of outdoor and indoor events the Summertyne Americana Festival fills a void around Tyneside.

From July 22nd through to the 25th The Sage Gateshead in conjunction with the ‘Jumpin’ Hot Club’ will present four days of toe tapping tunes from a variation of genres of American music.

Apart from great Broadway Musicals with the Northern Sinfonia, visitors will be able to participate in workshops for children and adults, take in exhibitions and film screenings and take boat trips to the mouth of the Tyne accompanied by John Miller and his Country Casuals who will provide the entertainment.

Headliners appearing over the festivities include Solomon Burke, Rosanne Cash (daughter of Johnny ,pictured, who no doubt will be singing songs from her latest album ‘The List”) Elizabeth Cook and Bob Dylan’s son Jakob Dylan with his band Three Legs .

There are a whole host of other artists appearing on the outdoor ‘Jumping Hot Club’ stage including East Nashville Review, The Hi & Lo,  Otis Gibbs, (Folk and Blues) The Toy Hearts (bluegrass and swing),The Handsome Family (alt country),The Holmes Brothers, Rita Hoskins, The Grass Mountain Hobos, Sarah Savoy and the Francadians (Louisiana cajun), Paul Burch, The Bikini Beach Band and the Quebe Sisters (western swing).

Also featured over what will be a hectic weekend will be contributions from Howe Gelb and a Band of Gypsies, Kristin Hersh, Tim Eriksen, Eliza Carthy, Phantom Limb, Jon Cleary and the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Dayna Kurtz and Rachel Harrington.

In total it is a spectacular cornucopia of eclectic tastes in music and is a great place to be if you’re looking for high class entertainment.
