They call him the ‘King Of Country’ and if his latest release is anything to go by, then he certainly is.
Just when country music moguls were pondering which direction country music was taking in the early eighties along came an artist with a uniqueness that could not be ignored.
Whereas country producers were offering a pop tinged country sound George Strait introduced them to a fresh yet traditional country western music blended with a style of western swing, honky tonk and bar-room ballads.
His first debut single ‘Unwound” released from his self titled album moved into the top ten of the Hot Country Songs charts and the album itself was hailed as a traditionalist breakthrough.
The rest as they say is history with George clocking up one success after another and in total winning twenty two Country Music Association Awards including consecutive Entertainer of the Year honours in 1989 and 1990.
Over the last thirty years of recording George has produced fifty seven number one songs on the charts and sold over seventy three million records.
His latest release entitled ‘Twang’ is another that shows why George deserves the accolades already bestowed upon him.
It’s a great mix of varied styles from the slow tender thoughtful ballad through a slice of cajun, to a song sung in Spanish and some great foot tapping country rockers.
There’s a great selection of songs including a couple of which George has co-written one of which ‘Living For The Night’ is already heading up the Billboard Hot Country Songs Chart and currently standing at the No 8 position.
This album endorses the fact that George Strait unlike many newer artists will be with us for a long time to come producing some of the greatest country sounds around.
It’s certainly an album you would be proud to add to your collection.
