Orla Murphy – Wonderous Visions

Belfast born and London based this is jazz singer Orla Murphy’s second album and what an impressive performance and production it is.

All of the songs on this fine album are by Stevie Wonder except Ms Murphy’s self penned “Timeless”.

The music on this CD is best described as a handsome mixture of high-end jazz and gentle blues.

Orla’s singing  throughout is both moving and heartfelt.

Diction crisp there is a gentle restraint in her vocals set against a complimentary and interesting musical arrangement and playing that speaks of class and of a talent comfortable with her material.

The Stevie Wonder songs are for the most part from the more obscure outposts of his empire.

With songs such as “Al I Do”,”Visions”,”Too High”and”I Don’t Know Why I Love You” this selection from a master are miraculously born afresh in the hands of this new but experienced singer.

Orla, s own song “Timeless” is indeed timeless and my favorite track on the album.

This quality of this song promises great things on the songwriting front.

I will be on the look out for further developments in her songwriting as being the next stage in Ms Murphy’s musical journey.

Orla is a fresh and dynamic new presence on the music scene and I for one hope that she will soon grace’s this part of the world with her professional and entertaining live show.

Classy and of great quality this album grows on you with repeat listens’.

You heard about her here first.
