This Dream is The Business!
As with the colours of the rainbow and the coat Joseph wears it all comes together in this dazzling show of fun and entertainment at The Sunderland Empire this week.
Written by musical masters Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber this show was their second outing as the legendary team that rewrote the rule book for musical theatre and made us all fall in love with musicals again.
All the ingredients of their genius are on display in this wonderful show.
A Biblical tale of sibling rivalry, enslavement and reconciliation is brought to life in this great two hours of entertainment .
With famous songs ‘Any Dream Will Do’ and ‘One More Angel’ along with ‘Close Every Door ‘, crowd pleasing and beautifully performed they are the heart centre of a show which hums with “Joie de la Vie”, poise and polish.
Keith Jack as Joseph is possessed of great charisma and talent which holds the audience’s focus throughout the show.
Jennifer Potts as the narrator for my money is a star in the making. Her singing was simply beautiful in its power, subtlety and diction.
Adam Jarrell as an early Las Vegas ‘Elvis’ themed Pharaoh electrified the second act with humorous turns and musical asides.
With magical Egyptian sets, atmospheric stage lighting and energetic choreography by the talented company the show zipped along without a dull moment all evening.
Local children from ‘Stagecoach Newcastle and Sunderland’ (alternating nightly) provided the chorus and acquitted themselves with great gusto.
What a treat for them to feature so young in a hit show!
In a nice audience pleasing touch the full cast with featured leads reprised all the musical highlights as the encore.
The Empire has pulled out all the stops to make this show a success with TV ads and radio spots.
That effort will be richly rewarded by all those who beat a path to their door this week.
Joseph is a great musical and a professional show to its fingertips.
A night of magical theatre and stage delight..
We hummed the tunes all the way home.
JOSEPH (the Musical) plays at Sunderland Empire until February 13th tickets are avaliable from the box office by calling 0844 847 2499.
