If you’ve been in the music business for forty two years and you’re still making records and can still fill auditoriums, concert halls, and theatres then I reckon you must have got something right. One artist who can certainly fit the bill is perhaps an artist who is not normally not associated with country music.
Known as the ‘cheeky cockney’ Joe Brown has from the early days of his career always delivered the goods in no matter was genre of music he has played.
From the early days of ‘A Picture Of You’ and “Thats What Love Will Do’ Joe has always had more that a soft spot for country music, with both songs mentioned having a flavouring of country running through them. With that in mind it is no wonder that when interviewed he does not want to be pigeonholed as a sixties rocker as his musical days are eclectic.
Remember his version of ‘All Things Bright And Beautiful’ and you’ll know for certain how he treats his musical tastes.
Perhaps these feeling comes from the days when Joe started his musical journey when music didn’t have as many genres as it has now, and if it was good then why should it be labelled as something different.
As an entertainer he has played with some of the greats from Jerry Lee Lewis, Eddie Cochran, Gene Vincent through to the legendary country artist Johnny Cash.

His country roots have shown through however on many occasions when he has had top billing on many country music festivals and has recorded crossover country hits including Don Gibson’s ‘Sea Of Heartbreak’.
As a guitarist and entertainer he excels in both fields and as far as sell out shows are concerned he played over two hundred shows to UK audiences in 2001/2002.
I reckon you can judge a good artist by his popularity and staying power and from those early days of Jack Goods ‘Boy Meets Girl” TV show Joe Brown has proved that he has both.
If further proof be needed you can see him in action at the Sage Gateshead on Sunday October 11th for a one off North East performance.
If you have not had the pleasure of seeing one of Britain’s best loved entertainers in concert then you need to treat yourself to a taste of ‘Brown Sauce’ (the title of Joe’s first book).
You will certainly not be disappointed whether or not your musical taste is country.
