I remember a life long pal with whom I used to go shooting with asking me to go fishing with him one time.
You’ll love it” he exclaimed, “Not for me”, I replied “I’d be sitting thinking about what I could be doing while I was sitting waiting for something to happen”. Truthfully I still feel the same.
However if anything may change my mind (and I know that fishing is the biggest participant sport in Britain) it could be the new DVD release from Robson Green entitled “Extreme Fishing II”.
Apart from being a very successful actor from the North East of England, Robson’s passion is the thrill of having a great day out fishing a quiet spot on the Northumberland coastline .
Not so on this series of DVD’s as he embarks on the adventure of a lifetime time visiting some of the greatest fishing destinations ever seen.
This is the second series of ‘Extreme Fishing’ that was to test his theory that you can’t beat a quiet days fishing-unless perhaps it beats you first.
In this three DVD set originally shown on Channel Five he sets out to find the biggest, the rarest, the strangest and the hardest and accomplishes most.
He island hops in Canada; ice fishing in Alaska; fishing and singing with Maori’s in New Zealand, facing crocodiles, rare sea snails and octopus in Australia: fishes for the elusive striped bass in North America, struggles with the giant Mekong catfish in Thailand and takes on jellyfish in the Phillippines.
There are times when he perhaps wonders if he has taken on more than he can chew when he works harder than he meant to and eats some things that perhaps he really didn’t want to or even shouldn’t have tried to.
The whole series is beautifully filmed in exotic locations with great camerawork and the excitement from Robson is a treasure to behold which proves his long association with his delight for fishing.
As if you needed anymore from this 347 minute epic special on three DVD’s features include a Robson Green Filmography and a Picture Gallery.
The fishing fraternity will love it..as for me..it could make me think about participating…perhaps if I could fish where Messrs Green has been.
In total though, fisher person or not you’ll love the sense of adventure and enthusiasm that Robson injects into it…..it’s an infectious enthusiastic watch.
Extreme fishing it may be….extreme entertainment it really is.
