Earth 2 is the epic sci-fi series created by Stephen Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment which finally makes its way to DVD in the UK almost twenty years after it first aired on TV screens to great acclaim from fans and critics alike.
This a futuristic adventure story set in the not to distant future when an alternative Earth is sought.
Mankind in its greed and stupidity has poisoned the Earth and the remnants of humanity are housed in space stations circling a planet that they can gaze upon but no longer occupy.
Children are being born who are becoming diseased because they have none of the Earths elements, wind and fire to stimulate them.
The race is therefore on to find a new Earth and save mankind.
All is not well however in the community and sabotage is on hand to defeat the travellers in their search for new lands.
So the scene is set for the travellers to find a new Earth and make it a better place.
This is an early American television series of exploration and entertainment, which are the hallmarks of its current quality output.
There are no star names and it is so much the better for it and I was particularly taken with the excellent sets, energetic acting and crisp direction, which moves the story along at a nifty pace.
Well worth a punt and a welcome distraction for all our summer sport overkill at present.
Bonus features including deleted and extended scenes and blooper outtakes give the viewer an extra added dimension to this twenty one episode popular series.
