Don Williams returns to tour

Mention the words ‘Gentle Giant’ in country music circles and everyone knows we’re talking about Don Williams.

In 1971 he embarked on a solo career recording for JMI Records and what followed made a mark in country music history, gaining a string of top ten hits between 1974 and 1991.

Only four of his forty six singles didn’t make it to the Top Ten.

After thirty odd years of making music and touring the world he announced his Farewell Tour in 2006, and locally his last appearance in the North East was at the Metro Radio Arena Newcastle.

His Final Farewell Concert Stateside was played at the Cannon Centre for Performing Arts in Memphis ,Tennessee on November 21st 2006.

After and absence of five years, albeit that he has played a modicum of dates in America it has been announced that the gentle giant is to to return to Britain next year to play a series of dates the length and breadth of Britain and Northern and Southern Ireland.

Starting in Ireland on April 19th next year, he tours until May 6th with the local date for our region being April 27th when he appears at The Sage Gateshead.

Whether or not a new album release will accompany his appearance is as yet to be announced, albeit that his many fans will be treat to classics like “I Recall A Gypsy Woman’,”You’re My Best Friend” and many more.

Don Williams is one of a few country artists who have the ability  through their music to cross the boundaries of musical genres and be able to entertain audiences who in general appreciate a great talent.

He will be welcomed back with open arms from his many fans and will no doubt enfold many more who have yet to see him.
