Sean Wilson sprang onto the Irish music scene in 1989 with his jaunty tunes and smooth voice.
In the last twenty years he has entertained a steadily growing legion of fans with his spruced up versions of ‘come all yea songs’ and sentimental reflections of “Old Ireland” and exile from home.
Nothing is more beautiful than a remembered childhood when life was uncomplicated and mummy and daddy were forever.
Music and sentiment of this kind has its place and Sean has great skill in tapping into it.
My late Aunt Gina referred to it as “Diddley Dee” music and Sean may well be the current King of it .
I really enjoyed this CD which is interestingly accompanied by the re-release of his first album ’Sean Wilson and his Singers’.
On this listening Sean’s talent arrived fully formed.
This has taken him to record in Nashville with the cream of that world’s musicians.
In a crowded market Sean Wilson stands out .
In addition to the title track have a listen to ‘Home’, ‘Molly Brown’ and ‘Forever and Ever, Amen’.
Sean is a moving singer and a maestro accordion player.
I for one will be looking out to catch him in concert as soon as he graces this part of the world again with his ever popular tours .
On the day Ireland has gone bust it is a reassurance to put a CD like this on and know tomorrow is another day and we Irish are a resourceful and talented people.
