On todays show there’s special treat in our Album of the Week as instead of the usual three tracks I’ll be playing four…it’s the latest from The Dixie Chicks. Our On This Day feature looks back to October the ninth over the last few decades and I’ll be giving mentions to stitching, what the BBC banned, telephones, cars, and planes, Thomas the Tank engine and electric blankets.
There’s the usual look at the ups and downs of the Billboard Hot Country Songs Chart and our ‘Remember This’ track takes us back to a song recorded in 1957 that didn’t become a hit until 1962.
There’s news as to how you can win tickets to see Mary Chapin Carpenter and Tift Merritt at the Sage in Gateshead and there’s songs from Mary C, Heartland, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Linda Ronstadt, Phil Vassar, Julianne Hough, Suzy Bogguss, Clint Black and a mean old man called Jerry Lee Lewis…
There’s lots to get through so click on the button below and take a listen
It’ll be great to know you’re there.
Cheers

Just found your site on google and I think it is a shame that you are not ranked higher since this is a terrific post. To change this I decided to save your site to my RSS reader and I will try to mention you in one of my posts because you truly deserv more readers when publishing content of this quality.
Hi Andy,
I take on board your comment and personal opinion about the Dixies, but by the same token stand fast on playing four tracks as I feel that this is a great release for someone who unlike yourself may not be aware of past offerings. It may also encourage them to take further interest in country music. As you say it’s a great stocking filler.
It will be good to hear the Kenny Chesney tracks next week. I can’t really understand why we had 4 tracks from the Dixie Chicks Essential as Album Of The Week. For me its just a stocking filler season release and at £18 in HMV hardly that!
As all the tracks are ones fans have already with NO new ones its just a “Lazy” release. A replacement for those that burnt their collection after the famed Shepherds Bush show perhaps?
I’d rather hear our own British artists or other Inde artists who making great music.
