Caprice (DVD)

Caprice M Caprice (DVD)This new DVD starring Doris Day and Richard Harris available for the first time is a comedy caper from the mid sixties.Caprice stars a beautiful Doris Day and the newly arrived international star Irish actor Richard Harris in a spy spoof which was popular then in the wake of James Bond phenomena.Set in glamorous locations with exciting costumes this was formula entertainment for the desperate to get hip Hollywood of the Sixties.

The film also marks one of  Doris Day’s last films before her retirement to look after deserted animals in Hollywood!

I put this film on with some misgivings as this period of international films was budget large and storyline light.

It also marked the early stages of Richard Harris’s notorious reputation for on set disruption and  indifferent movie performances.

I am happy to report that this film is a hoot.

A wonderful real time ‘Austin Powers’ spy adventure.

Silly but enjoyable.

Day plays a spy employed to do a bit of digging into a company’s new beauty product.

That product launch is a cover for a serious drug smuggling scam.

A lot of money is at stake and some ruthless people stand to benefit.

Day and Harris take on a mysterious Mr Big in a series of big scale adventures and dramatic episodes which hurtle along at breathless speed.

Good fun, good viewing and good value.

An entertainment full house!

I always knew Doris retired too early and maybe Harris was right to insist on script changes after all!
