Beckaroo at her best

Many years ago I had the pleasure of interviewing one of the stalwarts of the country music scene Moe Bandy. He had been a rodeo clown prior to hitting the big time as a country entertainer and while we talked about his latest release he told me to take a listen to a new female artist who duetted with him on one of the tracks called ‘Lets Get Over Them Together’.

Her told me her name was Becky Hobbs and that she was destined for great things.

It was a couple of years later that I actually saw Becky perform at the Peterborough Country Music Festival and realised exactly what he meant. She was and is, one of the bubbliest entertainers you could ever come across.

Her repertoire takes you from the hard edge country rocker through to a sentimental ballad in the wink of an eye, with a delivery that captures your interest from the opening notes. A country colleague once described her as the female Jerry Lewis albeit without correction I was aware that he meant Jerry Lee Lewis.

Known to her friends as ‘The Beckaroo’ she has written songs that have been recorded by artists like Alabama (Angels Among Us), Conway Twitty (I Want To Know You Before We Make Love), Loretta Lynn, Glen Campbell, Helen Reddy,George Jones and even Shirley Bassey.

Her latest release entitled ‘Best Of The Beckaroo’ Part 1 takes in the twenty one most requested songs from many of her previous releases and is a treat to behold. From The opening track ‘Jones On The Jukebox’, through the gentle ‘She Broke Her Promise’ to the final ‘Hottest Ex In Texas’ Becky proves why she is respected in country music circles for her vocal and songwriting ability. Perhaps the best news is, that if this is Part One then there is more to come.

If you love great country music then you must add this Becky Hobbs album to your collection. It’s a belter. You can check out more by logging on to her site for further information. www.beckyhobbs.com….but hang on to your hat!
